Millions of people saw the speech given by queen Beatrix in which she abdicated the throne. This means that Holland now has a new monarch: King Willem-Alexander!

King’s Day is a national holiday on which the birthday of the King Willem-Alexander is celebrated. King’s Day is celebrated on the 27th of April. 

Whether you are in favour of the monarchy or against it, King’s Day on the 27th of April can be a fun holiday for everyone. Most companies are closed on this day. Children do not have to go to school. During this day “off”, people can choose to spend it in their own way.
