The name "De blauwe deel"

Many a visitor over the years has asked: How did you come up with the name De blauwe Deel? Yes, yes, it really isn't just any name, the choice was carefully thought out. We will explain!

De blauwe Deel has existed since the year 2000. At the time, doors were opened in the old farmhouse dating from 1793 to offer unique Art Nouveau and Art Deco items. The Deel (read: part) (where the cows used to be) was beautifully decorated to display furniture, lamps and special items. The farmhouse was painted in a deep blue/purple colour. So immediately the first explanation of the name!

Before De blauwe Deel existed, a lithograph by graphic artist Gert Strengholt had hung in the house for years, showing a remodelling of a house. Blue wooden planks (parts) stand against a fence behind which a barn emerges. This artwork symbolises the intensity of years of renovation. Buying an old farmhouse as a ruin is not nothing.... Before the house was habitable and the Deel became available as an exhibition space, years passed. Restoration takes time and energy. However, the result is worth it!

The third explanation of the name De blauwe Deel is The blue share in the glass factory in Leerdam. In the 1920s (during the heyday of Art Deco glass), people could buy shares. And yes The Blue Part owns a blue share. A nice reminder of the artworks of yesteryear.

Feel free to visit The Blue Share. An Eldorado in terms of Art Nouveau and Art Deco!
